RISONARE Nasu with kids: make space for a forest-and-farm stay

A Tochigi alternative for families who want farm activities and indoor play between time outdoors. Plan around the reserved shuttle and the activity you care about most.
Information checked: 2 October 2026
This guide is based on official published information, not a first-hand hotel stay. Services and booking conditions can change. Check the hotel’s official website for current rates, availability and booking conditions for your dates and every child’s age.
Who we would shortlist it for
CODOMOWA planning suggestion
Our editorial choice when the family is more interested in soil, plants and forest time than a swimming-led stay. Two nights give you a full day without a transfer; for one night, choose a single farm or indoor activity rather than building a checklist. Do not select Nasu on the assumption that it has a verified swimming-pool programme: we could not establish one from the detailed official information.

Rooms and a child-policy discrepancy
Official information
The property lists rooms for 1–4 guests. Its detailed Japanese family FAQ permits preschool children aged 0–6 to share existing bedding without an accommodation/facility charge, up to the room-capacity count; separate bedding is not supplied. The English overview uses different age wording. Ask the hotel to confirm a six-year-old’s eligibility and the correct booking category, and always provide the real age. Check meals separately.

Reserve the shuttle before fixing the train
Official information
The access page lists about 75 minutes from Tokyo Station to Nasushiobara by Tohoku Shinkansen. Official pages put the free hotel shuttle at roughly 35–40 minutes. Reserve at least three days before use; seating and departures are limited. These separate legs exclude waiting and the journey from your Tokyo accommodation. A car-free hotel stay is feasible when the shuttle fits; do not assume spontaneous off-site trips will be equally simple.

Farm time and an indoor fallback
Official information
Farmers Lesson is listed year-round for all ages with an accompanying adult for children. It is hosted in Japanese, requires a booking after check-in at least 30 minutes before the session, and changes with weather and season. A specific harvest is not guaranteed. POKO POKO has indoor net play equipment and a ball pool. The family FAQ says main buildings are stroller-accessible, while some forest paths are difficult with a stroller.

Check the restaurant, not just the child’s age
Official information
SHAKI SHAKI’s buffet lists ages 3 and under as free, with separate bands for ages 4–6 and 7–11; dinner requires a reservation. OTTO SETTE NASU’s official dining page announces a different course structure from 1 October 2026 and the same course price for adults and children. Older age-banded prices on family pages should not be relied on. Confirm the current child menu, inclusions and cancellation terms for the restaurant you choose.

A cost to check from October 2026
Official information
Nasu Town introduced accommodation tax for stays from 1 October 2026, with under-12s exempt and the amount depending on the accommodation charge. Check the final booking total and whether this tax is included or collected separately. This is a local tax notice, not a room-price quote.

Make the full day the reward
CODOMOWA planning suggestion
For one night, fit your main activity around the available shuttle and standard 15:00 check-in / 12:00 check-out. For two nights, use the middle morning for your first-choice activity and keep an indoor alternative for weather changes. Pack clothing that can get dirty, and check whether an English explanation is available if the Japanese-led activity would otherwise be difficult for your family.

Questions before booking
Can a six-year-old share a bed free?
The detailed Japanese FAQ includes preschool six-year-olds, but the English overview differs. Confirm your child’s eligibility and the booking category with the hotel; do not enter a younger age. Meals and separate bedding are separate questions.

Is POKO POKO a swimming pool?
The verified play facilities include a ball pool and net equipment. That does not establish a swimming pool. Ask the hotel if swimming is essential to your booking.

Will we definitely harvest vegetables?
No specific harvest is promised. Farmers Lesson follows the season, weather and farm work needed that day.
